I must have missed the part when Ben Hutton became a Norris calibre dman?

Is he really a 1st, two 2nds, and two half decent prospects better than Carrick?

    I wouldn't trade Carrick plus a 1st for him.

Guys, i know that's a lot, gut i haven't thought of timashov and gauthier as top prospects. Carrick is good, but that 1st round pick would be a late one, and 2 2nds. Hutton is a very good young player, and the leafs could use defence.

Who are their left D-Men? I don't know who's left handed and who's right handed.

Look at the player tags in you roster above: the dark line on the left side means "shoots left", the dark line on the right side means "shoots right".

OK. So the defensemen that shoot left are Reilly, Dermott, Valiev, Marincin, and Gardiner. Doesn't that need an improvement?

Sure, but the left side being stronger, why would the include an RD in a huge overpayment for an LD who will play 3rd pairing minutes? It leaves the defense corps even more unbalanced.

Bad RFA signings, bad trades. See that cap space? That's how the Leafs can improve the club. Not be making lateral trades but by using their cap leverage to make deals.
I've been somewhat critical of the Leafs defence this year but part of the problems has not been personnel. Zaitsev new to the NHL, Carrick first full season in the NHL, Marner, Matthews, Brown, Nylander, Soshnikov, Hyman first full season in the NHL. It takes time to get the defensive coordination right.

Hutton is not as good as you think he is, and Carrick is not as bad as you think he is.

I would hope you don't think Timashov/Gauthier are top prospects, would make this proposal even worse then it already is.

I would hate to see what you propose the Leafs trade for an actual top Dman.

two of the islanders best prospects and a 2nd for a fourth liner who they could've retained but they didn't need him
