Description
I've been pretty steadfast about Krebs playing center in the NHL, but I read reports of him playing LW in Rochester so I have him there

I really think they would like to add a high-end center (wouldn't everyone) to be their future #1, because I don't think he is currently on the roster

The team needs to weaponize the cap space they have. Pick up bad contracts for draft picks, retain half, and move them for more draft picks

CBJ pass. Even at half retention, don't want Mrazek.

If I was Sabre fan or player I'd be pissed that Sabres weren't spending some of that cap on good players like UFAs.

They won’t. Peterka, Krebs and Quinn will all be in Buffalo next year. They will sign a goalie though.

For where they are it doesn't make a ton of sense to do that. They're all about letting their young players get experience right now so trying to speed up a rebuild by throwing money at players that don't fit that timeline doesn't make sense for them. In two years I will be more okay with it, but for now I would love them to do what Arizona has done and just take on bad deals for picks or be essentially a bank for other teams.

I'm not saying you that long term UFAs should be signed, but going with an non NHL roster isn't the answer either. Don't know why you want to follow the Arizona program...look where it has got them...last place, and really no way ouy. Actually the Sabres with their multiple high draft picks......that hasn't worked either. But signing UFAs like Skinner and Okposo long term has been waste also.

Leafs aren't doing that just when Ritchie is starting to find myself. Mrazek has played like 1 game since he's been back and hasn't looked bad.

I definitely see what you're saying, but the team has fully gone in on building through their drafting/developing, which is something that they never really committed to when they drafted Eichel/Reinhart. They got those guys (Risto, Nylander, etc. as well), but then tried to press fast forward and traded for Kane, O'Reilly and others and blew up their farm system. It made their bottom six incredibly weak and wasn't sustainable (also gross negligence by the front office, owners, and coaching didn't help).

I'm not saying that they should completely forgo signing any guys with NHL experience, but they really want to give their young players the chance to play as much as they can because they know that their window really begins in 2023-24. Even next year they have guys like Tuch, Olofsson, Okposo, Girgenson, and Skinner who are veterans at this point. Down the middle with be Thompson, Cozens, and Mittelstadt, who will be in their third or fourth seasons at that point.

One or two year deals for some UFAs would be great, but at this point they want to get their guys as much playing time as they can. I only say be like Arizona in terms of using your cap space to get some extra picks. If a team like Chicago or Tampa need to shed some salary and want to trade a big contract to another team, Buffalo can take some of the money for a pick and then have the player go elsewhere. Arizona is a tire fire I would never want to be like them.
