If the Leafs are a few years away from being a Cup contender as you suggest, then it likely the Leafs won't pursue the somewhat unneeded Shatternkirk. Wait a couple of years, see what you got with your own squad and then if you have to sign, a big name UFA (if there is cap room.)

Although I like Bozak and would like to see as a Leaf next year, I think he will be exposed. My thinking is that Leafs are going to be able to trade for other teams unprotected Dman. Bozak only has one year left on his contract and if he's lost to the Leafs, well it's just a year sooner.
