Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2021
Published: Dec. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Im not exactly sure where Im going with this. However there are 3 needs for the Rangers...
1. A legit top 6 RW.
- Podkolzin has some serious potential there, is on an ELC and will help the Rangers stay cost compliant. Could be a nice combo with Panarin.
2. A center that can play two-ways and win important faceoffs.
- Dvorak is one of the best faceoff guys in the league, on a really bad team. I think hes better than what his stats show. The retaining of salary leaves space for the Rangers to resign Strome. I like Pajuniemi but he is the sweetener in this.
3. A fix for the bottom pairing.
- Nemeth is meh. Chiarot is better. Schneider called up for RD.

Habs will easily ask for better prospects in that trade bud. most likely ludkvist or schiender. chytil doesn't have much value to us.

Do they really? It seems most here think Nemeth and a 1st for Chiarot is fair. Dvorak with some retention for Chytil and Pajuniemi is the deal breaker?

In this situation you can forget about Schneider because Nils is traded for Podkolzin.

Your value for Dvorak before retention should be almost the same as what they paid to get him a couple months ago

Well... technically it is. They get a former 1st round pick in Chytil who is still a young kid (22yo) and Pajuniemi was one of the top goal scorers in the Finnish league before coming to the AHL this year and is doing fairly well.

Neither seems like a what Montreal needs though. I imagine Schneider/Lundkvist would be the main ask

Yea, well, neither was an option for Buffalo when Eichel was available. They certainly are not available for Dvorak. lol

That salary retention is a complete no-go. Even if the habs were willing to take the extra salary on, you’re looking at at least an extra 2nd and a 3rd tacked onto the normal price.

And Dvorak is our long-term 2C, with no one in the wings to replace him, so you’d have to pay a pretty penny to pry him away from the team.

Vancouver is not going to trade Podkolzin unless it was an unbelievable offer. That is not an unbelievable offer.

The value strictly speaking on the Van trade isn't bad. I would say Lundqvist is not the type of player we need. We definitely need RD but we need defensive first players with some size. As for Georgiev he's also not much value in that we have a strong prospect in DiPietro who seems to be doing well and will be cheaper as a backup. Change Lundqvist to Schneider and it might begrudgingly be a deal. IDK Id have to look closer into at that point because Podkolzin has def got some game.

Plus, Habs only get a maximum of 3 salary retentions if i remember correctly. I don't want to waste one on $1.2M when we have Price, Gallagher, Petry, Drouin, etc.

Too vanilla for our new look. Dvorak is very average and not a smart fit, especially with 4 more years! Would guarantee not keeping Butter Strome & Chytil & late 1st (gold for us, as opposed to early 1st lol)... yikes.
