Leafs 2017/2018

Created by: jmac490
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 3, 2017
Published: Mar. 3, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Losing the cap hits from JVR, Bozak, Lupul and Horton will help the Leafs come 2018/19 when Matthews, Marner will have to be resigned. I can see Uncle Leo playing 3rd line with Nylander while he develops into a top tier center. Kadri in the meantime can hold down the 2nd line with Leivo and Brown. Boyle, Martin lead a grindy 4th line. The Anaheim trade allows for Matthew's to get a much better upgrade at wing because Hyman isn't cutting it at the moment. When Nylander transitions to wing, Matthews will get Marner on his wing, leading to quite the dynamic first line.

Those are terrible trades. Also there is Zero chance Vegas takes Hortons contract. Also leafs are in no shape to be giving away first round picks for nothing. I also would not trade Kapanen for silfverberg

Teams don't get punished cap wise for having guys on LTIR. So. let's stop these Horton trades, especially if the rich Leafs have to give up so much..
Both teams out of the playoffs in order to make trades? Where does this come from? Zaitsev is going to a lot more money and term, if Zaitsev wants it, or else he will be UFA in two years.

You can make trades whenever during a season. You can't use players traded after the TDL in the playoffs. If the Ducks go deeper then the Silfverberg staying with the Ducks makes sense until they're out. Likewise with the Leafs. Horton's contract hits against the cap unless he is on the "Rookie LTIR" which I think only works part way through the season. So the Horton hit is expensive over prime signing season. Zaitsev deal is purely bridge. He'll make more if he plays well

It's still a lousy trade getting rid of Kapanen. No, you're wrong about LTIRs, and since Hortons contact is not insured, Arizona isn't taking it like they did for insured contracts like Pronger and Bolland. Zaitsev purely bridge? Because of his age he is two years away being a UFA like Panarin. Two year deal, you lose him after the bridge.
