Fox bridge to keep it together

Created by: aecliptic
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 6, 2021
Published: Sep. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
IF the Rangers do decide to make a move on Hertl, I feel like this is the only way to make it work to keep it all together. Fox would have to be very generous to the franchise he loves and only wants to play for by take a bridge deal that gives the Rangers some breathing room until 2024. Then the Rangers can trade Kreider and Trouba since their contracts become modified NTC's and Fox will get his mega contract.

If we do this we HAVE to move one of Kreider or Trouba in 2024

Is it really worth bridging Fox at 7 mill when he can get signed longterm around 9? I don’t see the appeal

Thats the whole purpose of the 2 year Fox bridge. That will take us to 2024 where we can, I believe, move both. Trouba's money will get split between Fox and Miller (who will also need to bite the bullet for a year and take a bridge), Kreider's will be spread out between LAF, Kakko and Krav.

If you do this, you only have about 10M to sign Miller, Lafreniere, Barron and a back up. Be really really tough to do if they break out this year or next.

The point is to have a 2 million buffer to resign Zib, Hertl, Kakko and Krav. This is all about the Rangers trading for Hertl AND being able to keep him.

If you read the description is said Fox would have to be very generous here.

I agree but if you wait 2 years and Fox keeps playing like that, he’s going to get 11+ in 2 years .

Its a lot to ask of the young kids, hopefully they see the bigger picture here.

I realize that, its not an ideal situation to be in however this is where it stands IF they trade for Hertl unless they can convince Hertl and Zib to take less or Drury can pull a Lou and get the last 2 years of the contract to bring the AAV down.

so you're moving a developing C and a 1st (in a deep draft) for a player (albeit a good one right now) who you'll have to pay big time until he's 35...and in doing so, the salary structure is stressed so that we have to bridge a guy who SHOULD be getting a long term deal...and the team will be dependent on the "mercy" of others when Kreider and/or Trouba have to be moved.

Sorry- I'm out...would rather see how the team as constituted- particularly the young players- fares under the new coach before any big moves like this are made.

Well would you rather 9×8 to 32 years old then 10+×8 to 40, or 7×2 to 26 then 11×8 to 34 where theres no chance we give him long term anymore, it seems much more manageable unless Fox gets greedy at 34

Second . You’re right you don’t want a Kreider situation 2.0

More like a san jose situation, Kreider is worth his money, but the fit just isn't there anymore

Im 50/50 on whether or not hes worth the money. Hes a fast and physical player, good skater, a net front PP specialist. He is however mentally fragile, incredibly inconsistent and has a tendency to disappear for long stretches. He doesnt have good hands and hes not a great shooter or passer. For as good as his north/south game is, his east/west game is horrid.

He is what he is at this point, and hes huge in the locker room, so we should keep him productive for a few years if we give him the right linemates, IMO its Chytil and Kakko

There is no way Kakko is playing on that line, he will be on the first line.
