1yr of Staal = 2nd
2yr of Neal = 1st & 2nd?
Doesn’t add up

Albin Grewe is playing in Finland next year. He signed a contract with Ilves two weeks ago.

I doubt very much that the Blues want Cholowski, they already have plenty of players at his level already. They'd rather trade Dunn elsewhere that offers a better return.

So edmonton declines, neal can just be bought out they aren't moving 2 picks for it. Dunn is gonna cost a whole lot more than a 3rd and cholo. I'd be shocked to see hyman sign without a huge overpayment. I'd like Martinez but who knows.

The difference is that Staal played LD, a position where Detroit needed help.
Neal is a winger which Detroit already have enough of.

How much use the player is to the team influences how much he's worth to them and his price. Since Neal has a negative price tag it means that it costs more to get rid of him than it would if he had filled a need in Detroit.

A 1st and a 2nd is an equivalent price compared with Staal. Other teams may have other values attached to Neal, but from Detroit's point of view it makes perfect sense.

I don't see flipping as a positive thing if anything it takes away from the value. In this case STL would have to trade Cholowski to break even on the Dunn trade. STL is moving Dunn for cap space they aren't going to want to take salary back. I would like Dunn in Detroit and I have no problem giving up Washington's 1st to get him.

So far Yzerman has been big on cap dumps and I don't if that will change this season.

It would be great if Petruzzelli signs but I don't think he wants to play in Detroit. If he doesn't sign by August 15th he can go where he wants.

If Detroit does draft Hughes he won't sign for at least 1 season because just like the top 2 players in the draft he has already committed to play at U of M. I'm not sure anyone from this draft plays in the NHL this season..

I'd decline this deal and offer to take on Tyler Johnson instead. Johnson plays centre and would be useful to Detroit,

Neal is just dead money. Johnson would also bring a better return.

Fabian Lysell could be one of the few to make the roster right away.

Spot on with everything about this... except that Dunn could be traded because of a lack of expansion protection spots. Has nothing to do with cap space.

Dunn is one of the best D in the league when looking at advanced analytics and yet everyone thinks they are going to somehow steal him from one of the shrewdest GM's in the league

Ok I just figured that you ended the with no cap left and only $507,500 of LTIR left. But you know a lot more about the team than I do so if it's just about being able protect him I will go with that. I'm in the minority with Wings fans I'm good giving up Washington's 1st before the expansion draft for Dunn. Simply because I think if Namestnikov is left unprotected Seattle will take him.

If he stays in STL he won't be protected so it's loose to Seattle for nothing or get a 1st rd pick for him. Advanced analytics don't tell the whole story and if they did there would be no need to play the games. Dunn is good but one of the best in the league he isn't in the top 3 in STL or he would be protected and they would be moving another defenseman. Now STL has a very good defense and Dunn is the 4th best there but in Detroit he would be the best LHD on the team. Using just advanced analytics would Montreal be in the semifinals?
