Assuming the plan is to keep Byfield and build around him, not sure if they are legitimate contenders for the forst 3 years Eichel would be there. So 2 years of contending and leading up to then you have 31 million invested in 3 players, 2 of which are mid 30's. I can understand why the interest wouldn't be there

Even worse, would be giving the declining Schwartz a 5.5m X 5 deal. Maybe bring back UFA Martinez. Develop your own centres.

You have to look at contracts,Toronto is yearly showing that three 10 mil dollar players dont work.

Just for fun I bet I can name 7 centers who are better. Probably more.

Mcdavid, Draisitle, Mathews, Mckinnon, Scheifele, Crosby, Bergeron, Barkov, Point. Thats 9. Point is unless Eichel makes you an instant contenderit's not worth selling your future for him. Not worth it for teams like the kings, blackhawks, etc. Rangers could make some sense
