I had Zub signing with Ottawa at 3 million per year or slightly more than that for 3 years.
The fact that it's only 2.5 million per year for only 2 years suggests to me that this is a team-friendly bridge deal and that it got done in good faith.
I also find it interesting that Zub signed this deal right after the Sens ended their season on a high note without finishing in the bottom 3 for once.
This is a great deal for Ottawa. Zub has been great for them this season. Extremely underrated for having 14 points in 47 games this season on a bad team. This is a great deal for Ottawa and Zub can definitely help them get out of their rebuild. Also, what a name... ZUB.
I like this contract. Don't think it's a steal for either side. Just a solid signing. Ottawa gives a player a reasonably salary for two years to prove he is consistent. This is much different than signing a guy to a 7 year 4.5 AAV deal based off of one OK season. Things are changing for the better in Ottawa.
Zaitsev definitely should've received this kind of contract instead of the anchor he was handed.
I would have done what Lou did with Kadri
1 year show me than if he repeated then he gets the term
that way when leafs saw the collapse they could say **** off and not need to dump brown to get rid of him. Followed by moving brown for a RD as at there were some good offers for him (especially from Edmonton who wanted him to be with Mcdavid)
