My Thoughts On Dubas Plan Right Now

Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 11, 2021
Published: Apr. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don’t remember where I saw it, so I cannot site my source.
But I saw that Dubas was pushing for Merlikins from CBJ as well, but the price was too high.
If that is true and Dubas is looking into a goalie, what does that say about Andersen’s health?
I hope he’s okay and recovers soon, whether he plays or not

Anyways, I am almost certain Dubas isn’t done quite yet. I don’t know how much deadline cap he has, because I don’t really understand how that works. But he does have cap space.
I imagine he’s looking into some 1B type goalies and maybe a depth d man. Let me know what you think.

After the goal he scored tonight, I am even more interested in Oleksiak than I was a day ago lol

I think a 3rd goalie is a priority.

The leafs know whats going on with Anderson. From what I've read, I think its unlikely to see Anderson back in the next week. We have 5 games from the 12th-19th and I dont expect to see him back for any of those. He MAY be healthy after, but at that point they will have 10 games left, if Campbell is still rolling Anderson maybe gets 5 of those games if he's healthy. You also have to take in to account the likely newly acquired 3rd goalie will get some game time too. I think Dubas and Pridham probably see that they can keep him on LTIR, send him on a 3 game conditioning stint in the AHL prior to the playoffs so he's fresh, and take advantage of that 3 million in cap space.

A depth defenseman, or even another Top 9 forward like Iafallo or Hall wouldn't shock me. If its hall I think Engvall + Picks would be going back the other way to help with the cap hit.

Well David Rittich is your answer now.

I believe it was Lebrun that mentioned something about Merzlikins to Toronto. But the ask was an additional 1st, Liljegren, and Woll plus maybe more. Frankly they don't need Merzlikins so it was smart to go with the cheaper option in Rittich instead

Andersen will now likely be on LTIR for the remainder of the season and Campbell and Rittich will split games. Andersen will be sent to the minors on a conditioning loan and the team can apply for extra games and give him 5 games in the AHL to test his game out. Once the season is over, they'll recall Andersen. Likely start Campbell game 1 of playoffs and have Andersen back up (depending how he plays in the AHL) then after game 1 they'll go with who's hot.
