Analysis on Leafs Trade Deadline Day

Created by: NazemKadri43
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2021
Published: Apr. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Dubas goes into trade deadline day without making moves before the actual date, he will most certainly stand pat or make a few AHL deals at best. From past trade deadline experiences, while he was the GM of the Leafs, he always makes his moves in advance than the actual day (Jack Campbell move, the Jake Muzzin deal). Last season we acquired Cale Rosen for Hutch on deadline day. The season before, we acquired Nic Petan from the Jets I believe.

And 2 years is enough of a sample size for you to be comfortable with a pronouncement like this?

That's kind of different though, for a couple of reasons. As you said, he had already made significant acquisitions earlier on in both seasons. Last year, the last game before the deadline was the Ayres game - he wasn't helping that team out.

He could be waiting so we have more cap at deadline. I think Dubas has somthing he's thinking of.

Lou was the GM the season before.

It's also beneficial to wait this season. Allows them to maximize their cap space.

Lou wasn't the GM for the 2018/2019 season

I know that. I said the last two seasons (19/20 and 18/19), you asked what about the season before; Lou was GM.

It says right there in the quote "he had already made significant acquisitions earlier on in both seasons", as in the prior two, as in 19/20 and 18/19. Clear as day; really not that hard to grasp.

I believe the Leafs have made more trades than any team this current season. May not be considered that significant though Galyenchuk has been a nice add.
Leafs did a number of changes in the off season. Really due to Covid restrictions and the team they have now, no real trades are needed.

They definitely made a lot of good moves BEFORE the trade deadline. However, ON trade deadline, we acquired two AHL pieces

Actually TDL over the past couple of seasons have been real duds. And this year, I'm expecting even less trades.
