If they are going to trade Engvall and Kerfoot, why wouldnt they just leave them exposed, do a 4-4-1 and protect Holl?

Would Dubas protect a 28 year old over a 24 year old? Protect Holl, I would love him to stay as a Leaf, but future wise, I can see Dubas protecting Dermott and was building a situation based on what could happen

One who contributes more to the team, is signed to a better contract and is signed to term? Anyone would.

Holl is better short term and on a very team friendly contract. Dubas thinks Dermott will be a top 4 defensemen for us, which is why I see them protecting Dermott. They could leave Holl exposed and I can also see Seattle choosing the younger player and selecting Kerfoot as their 3C

I honestly think he could be, he seems like a type of player that could play on all positions

If you also remember from the trade rumours, Kyle Dubas rejected the Weegar for Johnsson and Dermott trade. If he believed Dermott did not hold a lot of value, then he would be gone for a better player at the moment

the reason our PK was bad for so long is because it didn't have a real center, he was the center. playing center is much different from wing. C's can be wingers, but not really the other way around

Holl is a top 4 D for us already though.

He definitely is, no question, but Dermott is also the younger player:

Or he turned it down because of the cap implications of taking on Weegar. You know, the more likely answer.

We wouldn't have any cap complications though. We didn't trade Dermott since Dubas see's something in him that we may not. You're telling me that we can't add a $2.5 million defensemen?

Adding 3 million to the cap would have vast complications compared to the current team. By all means try to add 3 million without removing anything.

If we added Weegar, Bogosian wouldn't be on the team. I think Friedman or some analyst was talking about how the Leafs went with a Brodie/Bogosian addition over Brodie/Weegar (giving up assets)

You are about 2.5 million, and mind you its very reasonable to expect a contract in Toronto to be more expensive than one in Florida due to tax issues, short. Try fitting Brodie and a 3.5 mil aav Weegar and see how that works for you.

Once again why would Detroit have any interest in Kerfoot? We've Namestnikov who's essentially the exact same player as Kerfoot.

You're insane if you reject this.

Take it (the pick will almost be a 4th) and flip Kerfoot for a better asset.

What a waste of cap and personel to sign Coleman, to play wing and it causes the Leafs to trade two needed wingers.. Leafs would be a lot better to sign Bogosian again and promote Liljegren instead of signing Savard for 4m
