California Burnin

Created by: Mikker575
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2021
Published: Feb. 23, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just end the pain and Doug Wilson´s time, this team is going nowhere in terms of being competitive for a few years.
Trades
1.
SJS
    Seattle
    ANA
    1. Burns, Brent
    2. Gambrell, Dylan
    3. 2022 3rd round pick (SJS)
    Additional Details:
Burns doesnt have negative value as many people claim. The lenght of his contract however... thats why I added other pieces
    2.
    SJS
    1. Glass, Cody
    2. Krebs, Peyton
    Additional Details:
One of those two plus pick swap, like 2022 Vegas 3rd for SJS 4th or 5th. But dont really know how Vegas values those 2 so maybe this looks foolish.
    VGK
    1. Hertl, Tomas
    Additional Details:
With retention, I can see him returning top prospect and some middle round picks exchange. SJS prefers center. Move is done this TDL so that he stays on the team next season. Or no retention and SJS takes back cap dump which somehow adjusts the value. In my eyes, Vegas would be a good fit, DeBoer knows Hertl and they might use physical 2C who is good on both ends. Other teams that might be interested are Florida, Boston and Edmonton imo.
    3.
    SJS
    ARI
    1. Dubnyk, Devan
    2. Marleau, Patrick
    3. Nieto, Matt
    4. Noesen, Stefan
    Additional Details:
Some team might need them at TDL for middle to late round picks
    4.
    SJS
    BOS
    1. Vlasic, Marc-Édouard
    Additional Details:
Buyout before 2024 makes not much sense, I guess as vet presence with 15 minutes/game on 3rd pairing during the rebuild time makes more sense than giving up hella lot in a trade
    5.
    SJS
    BOS
    1. Karlsson, Erik
    Additional Details:
With Burns gone and him healthy, he might find himself, but needs someone with great defensive mind next to him. But he is Shark for a long time, I dont see a trade (even a change of scenery) which would make sense. And I dont want to see him on PK ever again.
    6.
    SJS
    BUF
    1. Simek, Radim
    Additional Details:
Feel sorry for this guy and his injury record but I think he might be done soon. Potential buyout or LTIR. If he somehow stays healthy, he can be traded with retention for mid round pick/prospect.
    7.
    SJS
    CGY
    1. Labanc, Kevin
    2. Meier, Timo
    Additional Details:
If Sharks go for hard rebuild, it makes sense to trade these guys. Both can land 1st+ back alone.
    8.
    SJS
    ARI
    1. Sörensen, Marcus
    Additional Details:
Forgot to trade him with Dubnyk and others for likely a late pick
    9.
    SJS
    CAR
    1. Couture, Logan
    2. Jones, Martin
    3. Kane, Evander
    Additional Details:
I dont see these 3 going anywhere, Jones might be bought out later, Couture has very long term and is captain so he will retire Shark imo and Kane would be good physical presence and protection for young kids, but in case of good return, he might be traded as well.

Burnsie's negative value is *because* of the length of the contract. There are at least 20 teams that are going to be looking to shed a bad contract to Seattle, and they'll be compensated handily for taking the ones that they choose. I don't think Gambrell+3rd even gets Seattle to answer the phone.

    Doubt Labanc gets 1st+. He'd get a 1st though

That might be right but in my eyes he still brings value as a player whereas Neal, Lucic or Vlasic have no or negative value as players and their contracts are negative too. Also I doubt Seattle builds team of bottom six players, they will take big names too and SJS fans can hope it will be Burns

I mean if Goodrow got late 1st, then Labanc can get that too, but i think Meier would go for better pick and worse prospect and Labanc prospect and maybe some 5th/6th rounder, but the overall value might be around late 1st.

Is there really a way for a player to have negative value? Unless he's throwing and giving the puck away on purpose I don't think there really is. They made the NHL in the 1st place for a reason

Don't forget in the Goodrow trade Tampa got a 3rd back as well

Sure, they most likely won't build on bottom six players, but for reference, just look at the Vegas draft...and that wasn't with a flat cap! Seattle is going to want to set themselves up to be a sustainable team...taking Burns for a bottom 6 fwd and a 3rd rounder isn't the best way to go about that.

Toronto had to pay a first to get rid of one year of Patrick Marleau's contract. There are at least half a dozen I could name that are worse.

I'm saying there isn't any way for the player to have negative value. There certainly is for contracts

Player can easily have negative value for his team, bad stats (too many penalties and not for fights), being on the roster instead of some developing youngster, even just having the player on the team knowing you could trade him 3 years ago and get back 2nd round pick, but trade him know and you will will have to pay the 2nd rounder yourself to get rid of him.

Watch the game last night, it's a prime example of Burns. Burns giveth and taketh away. He currently cannot outscore his faults, and will not be able to given more age.
