I do not think he is worth a 1st. He had one really good year other than that he is 40-50 point player. Maybe change the 4th to another 2nd or add a better prospect?
One good season is all it takes to inflate value of a player. Had the Sabres moved Skinner at the 2019 deadline in his contract year, they may have fetched a great return of a first and a couple prospects.
But in Hertz’s case, it’s not just a one hit wonder. I’ll tell you why he has a big tag. He broke out two years ago with 77 pts, and was on a 61 pt pace last year. And this year he’s off to a great start again. He’s had 120 points in his last 138 games which is a .86 ppg pace.
Hertl is also signed to a bargain contract, especially in the r pandemic world where teams can barely afford to keep their doors open.
He’s also one of the better two way forwards in the league and a major driver of possession. When you add all that up, Hertl is worth a 2021 first, a future second rounder and two good prospects and a roster player. Every team in the league will be interested and be will be one of the most sought after players at the deadline.
Yes Buffalo should at least inquire and I’m sure they will at least make a call to see what the price is
