That Detroit first round pick will be a high one. Like maybe top 5. If so, that’s almost enough by itself.

So if anything I may be giving up too much depending on where the pick lands? I think Detroit is bottom 8 team, and they'll get bent over in the lottery for the 5th year in a row. But either way picking up PLD probably puts them closer to 19-24th and out of Shane Wright next year.

Detroit will be bottom 2-3 team. They got better but they were abysmal last year. You are looking at another bust of a year which is fine considering it’s a shortened season anyway. I’d keep the pick honestly if it’s top five.

CBJ would get much better offers for PLD than that. The pick is nice but I would assume CBJ is looking for NHL ready talent.

We might as well keep the pick...don't have what it takes to get PLD unless we want to give up Larkin/Zadina/Mantha/Seider, which we don't.

From a Jets perspective I think they'd prefer that RHD prospect the Wings have that isn't Seider, the Jets are flush with LHD prospects, honestly anything other then G, LW or LHD prospects are needed.

Giving up that many assets in a trade is just a bad model for a rebuilding team. Drafting and developing is and should be the focus. Until they are LEGIT contenders, then and only then, do you give up futures in a trade to find the missing pieces. Also, the bidding of PLD has gotten ridiculous and that package wouldn't even be enough, while at the same time, still being horrible for Detroit, giving up the 1st rd picks.

I'd be fine with the WPG trade.

Idk, there's no guarantee that those draft picks will turn out and the Wings are pretty set with prospects everywhere but center, if they could get a good center in a trade it might be worth it.

Not the Yzermann way any way. Name 1 top line guy he gave picks and prospects for.
Granted when he took over Tampa Bay he had a young Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman to build around.

Apples to oranges - this isn't TB.

This doesn't work because of where Detroit is in their rebuild not because of Yzerman's perceived tendencies...

There's also no guarantee that PLD won't regress. He has a relatively small sample size of only 3 seasons and has had some pretty strong support around him. Now, I don't think he's going to regress, but just pointing out that there's no guarantee on him either. In a rebuild, I'd rather roll the dice that at least one of those picks, if not both, turn out to be as good, or better than him.

It’s also based on Steve Yzermann and his stated beliefs in building through the draft which was what I was pointing to so it not perceived

Oh really, the Wings don't have a lot of good D and wing prospects, couldn't they use a center?

The Wings aren't set with prospects at everywhere but center, so giving up a top 5 pick for one doesn't make sense.

IMO they have 3 legit NHL prospects (Seider, Zadina, Raymond) and the rest are a bunch of question marks.

I wouldn't say I'm "low" on them, just realistic.
