VAN decline. They would much rather keep the draft pick and bury Baertschi contract in the minors for another year.

If I was flames I would decline that oilers trade or sign another goalie. If Markstrom goes down out tandem woulf be Domingue and Parsons. One of which is a career 3.05 GAA and a 0.904% save percentage and the other has no NHL experience

Sam Bennett has been a bit of a disappointment. I don’t think the Flames could get that much for him now. Sometimes a player doesn’t develop as anticipated, but he’s still an NHL player, just not a star. 364 games is a third of the way to 1000, and he’s established who he is, a bottom6 forward that doesn’t produce enough to get top6 minutes at 5v5.

in essence, Lucic and Byron are similar in contract because of retained salary, so its a swap of players and MTL gets to pick up two 3rd round picks. Might be worth pursuing. MTL looses speed but adds grit. Will Byron be happy on 4th line in MTL, would Lucic be happy on 4th line in MTL ? Definitely food for thought. I hate fence sitters, so I say go for it and pull the trade.
