Wow, the first McDavid trade I've seen thats actually close and is semi-realistic. I think the Avs are the only team in the league that could do it. I saw your other ones and they were meh, this is close. Honestly, I think it's a deal from EDM perspective if Kaut is swapped for Newhook and the 3rd is removed. Not sure how the Avs feel about that, but wow thats a haaaaaul and wow does COL ever look like a cup contender. Things could potentially get dicey cap wise next offseason, but nothing Sakic couldn't handle.

It's not close to fair value. Rantanen is below average without MacKinnon, I doubt he's any better than Puljujarvi. And his contract is a silly overpay. Girard and Byram are good but both are LHD and the Oilers have TONS of LHD. I'm not high on Kaut and the 1st will be a 31st... not even close to fair value for the best player in the world.

Yes I know it’s likely that Toronto sends cap back, but idk. I think if this was to happen on edm end, it would be to bolster other positions. They arguably already have 3 top 6 C’s, don’t need to remove one and add another.

Yeah, but the Avs are the only team that can make it fit really well. It doesn't really make sense for Toronto and Buffalo since they need more depth, decimating their roster to get McDavid doesn't make sense.

Avs already have a 1C. No point in sacrificing the depth just to fill a role that's already filled.

In terms of Colorado's cap situation, if you take out the Bellmare, Calvert, and Cole contracts and replace them with three 1.5 million dollar players, you save 4.4 million. Grubauer will probably want a 1.5-2 million dollar raise, and Landeskog will want a 2 million dollar raise. That's 3.5-4 million, so the rest of the money you saved you can use to give a raise to RFA's like Tyson Jost.
The other great thing for the Avs is that when MacKinnon's deal expires in 3 years, Erik Johnson comes off the books.
