Description
Dear Canucks Fans,

I understand your desire for a rebuild, I really do, however you need to keep in mind that your team has VERY FEW trading assets. I think Hansen is very tradeable because he's versatile, and cheap. Burrows MIGHT be tradeable, granted you take a cap dump back. Miller could be tradeable at 50% retention if theres a major injury that can afford his cap.

However no team wants any of the following: Eriksson, Sutter, Dorsett, or Sbisa unless you're taking back a worse contract.

Sedin's can be traded next year at 50% retention at the deadline and get a good package, you'll probably be stuck with Eriksson for awhile, and although he's not bad, his contract will start to hurt.

You could dismantle your D core, but in honesty its not bad, You have a workable top 4 for the future (Edler, Tanev, Gudbranson and Hutton). However you could get a really good return for some of these players.

You're remaining forwards are all pretty young and it would be a good idea to let them get some good ice time to figure out what you have already.

I would say I wish you guys a quick rebuild, but I don't mean that, you spent many years going to the cup final and deep playoff runs, might be some turmoil for some years, especially given ownership doesn't want a rebuild.

Edler i feel i also a tradable asset, though he does have a NTC if he was to go to a contender like MTL could see him accepting the deal

Don't get trading Gudbranson though unless the package was huge.

It's not so much about trading your best players (that's easy) it advancing your youngsters and find new youngsters that are going to good NHLers. Right now it appears that the Leafs have a good "model" to go, I could be wrong the only two guys of any significance they traded in the past two years were Phanuef and Kessel and Bernier And the return of those guys haven't shown up in the NHL...It was basically cap dumps and the return of Lindberg, a second rounder and Kapanan haven't played in the NHL and goalie Anderson So drafting well, getting more draft picks, signing cheap UFAs Soshinkov and Zaitsev and some minor trades for guys with potential Carrick, Marincin, so far has been the Leafs method. But it mostly has been the advancement of Reilly, Gardiner, Kadrin Nylander , Brown, Komarov and two recent picks Matthews and Marner

Only trade-able guys we have are Tanev and Hansen. If Edler is willing to waive his NMC then him too.

Tanev and Hansen would get good returns since consistently they're our great for us despite our team being a gong show. They also have no NTC in their contracts so they'd net good returns. Returns that would help jump start this rebuild.
