Not very unique, BUT I think TOR would look really good. Trouba situation unfolds with him signing 1 year contract this year

In the Trouba trade my gut is telling me they may want Kapanen not Johnson. Also too rich for Hyman though he is playing well with Matthews and Nylander he isn't generating any offense they could go looking for an upgrade if they can find it.

        Thanks for the comments!

I think so too, and maybe others can join in, but I feel like the position that the Jets are in Johnson and Gardiner might be their best bet.

Also I wanted to lockup Hyman long term, I know he doesn't score a lot of points but I feel like if he can play a defensive game playing top minutes while having his linemates generate a ton of points, 2.2 is not much to pay for a 'top line forward'

Dreger already said that cost for Trouba would be Rielly not Gardiner, By all accounts Chevy doesn't want Jake Gardiner. And there's absolutely zero chance that Trouba signs for $5 million with the Leafs try more like $5.5 million.

This is very fair, Gardiner is not of the echelon of Trouba, HOWEVER the asking price is a comparable left handed defenseman. Which team has one of those that they would be willing to give up?

-Klefbom - Does trading him make EDM's Defense better
-Krug - Trading Away Krug makes their left side weak too
-Murray - Have Jones and Savard and Werenski already
-Brodin - Can't afford him cap wise
-Brodie - Probably better than Trouba
        -Fowler - Don't need defense
        -Dekeyser - could work

I think you're right but something has gotta budge, whether its team demands or player demands, because they're not going to get one

Johnson is a 7th round pick not really the level of prospects that the Jets would take yet alone want. And again the Jets don't want Gardiner

Johnson was drafted in the 7th round yes, but he's really come into his own. He was way ahead of Montreal's Lehkonen in points in the Swedish league, he is a solid B prospect, he consistently gets solid reviews

Out of curiosity what Defenseman do you think could be part of a package that a team would want to part with?

My guess is a Dman that is coming off their ELC next year. I think they are looking for a Seth Jones style trade. Get the Dman they want and sign them for the amount they want.
I just get the feeling winnipeg doesnt want to take on guys 25-26+ in age and already a few years into their contract.

Get them young, set the long term contract so they can have them for the 8+ years of prime that they would be giving up by moving Trouba

I totally don't get the Alzner trade.....It means very little if you have his right for two weeks. The only difference the club owning his rights really has is offering him an eight year deal, when all others can offer save. And then you sign him for seven. Alzner would wait and see who comes up with the best seven year deal from all 31 clubs.

Trouba: Leafs and probably most teams would like the playing abilities of the RFA who has not signed a contract this year. The Leafs and probably most teams don't want Trouba despite the playing abilities of the RFA who has not signed a contract this year. The Leafs management has ZERO interest in acquiring this guy. Leafs management has kept its players under low profile and they don't want Trouba and the baggage (I'm not blaming Trouba) with it. You mentioned Trouba would sign a 1 year contract this year. Geez, can you imagine Lou pulling his hair out as next summer the whole RFA not signing starts again. All the "trades" that are made that would satisfy Chevy and the Jets....twenty offers will be better than an offer from the Leafs. The Leafs don't want the Trouba and his baggage (not his fault) and if he they did, money wise, the Leafs would not offer Trouba as much as the teams.

As a judger of talent, I would be disappointed if Leivo, Griffith, Leipsic and Enroth are on the Leafs team next year. Leafs have better players...NHL type players with more upside. Kapanan, Johnson, Lindberg, Gauthier, Bibeau
who IMO could contribute more immediately and from a rebuilding team prospective need to have long looks at the NHL level.

It gives you exclusive rights to signing him, which I believe might be the best defenseman for us to pursue in the offseason. He plays top two minutes, plays defensively, is young enough and won't demand as much as Burns or Shattenkirk. Look at Yandle, Goligoski, the Teams that traded for their rights got them to deals that they wanted, they had complete control and I believe that could be beneficial to TOR.

Also something that I REALLY want to see is Leivo, Griffith, Leipsic and Corrado playing significant minutes for a stretch of games. We have no idea how good our own assets are and before we decide they aren't good enough we need to give them a chance. If they're not good enough that's fine but we need to give them a chance before we cut them for nothing.
