Wings took on Staal for one year, and was a position of need. There is no way that Ladd at 5.5 million for 3 years nets so low a package. Ladd spent the better part of the year in the AHL.

Do not try to say well they took on Staal for a 2nd different circumstances

For a team that is so bad your pool is weak. Adding 5.5M for 3 years (only 9M actually owed) to get 2 young NHL players seems pretty good to me, especially for a team that needs to hit the floor

Ok let's start with each arguement.

Wings are roughly 6 million from the cap floor. They still have to sign Mantha, Bertuzzi and a backup goalie. That should be roughly 12 to 13 million putting us over the cap floor.

We have talent it is just young , guys like Veleno, Rasmussen, Zadina, Seider and McIssacs among some of the names. I think it will take time. That is what rebuilding is about.

As far as Ladd, Staal's contract is for one year. Here today and gone tomorrow. He is also a good mentor and leader and will help bring along a very young d corp. Ladd on the other hand is owed over the next 3 years and the same amount in cap dollars when some of those kids will be seeking their next contract. He is also no a position of need as we have 3 guys who make too much and bring nothing to the table.

As far as Aho and Bellows, Aho is 24 not so young and has not cemented a foot hold on the big club. Bellows is 22 but averaged 0.5 points in the AHL per game, ok but not great.

Again you are trying to dump Ladd for a song and a dance and that is not good enough. Wings will want picks or better prospects, not 24 year old AHLer's or mid level prospects.

In what planet would a team be able to get the best young scorer in the league in the same deal that they are able to dump 2 yrs of Johnny Boychuk’s 6M AAV?

We don’t need help to hit the floor. As soon as we sign Mantha and Bertuzzi we’ll be over. The original point was not that the Red Wings won’t look to take on bad contracts for young assets, it’s that your value is nowhere close. If Marleau took a 1st to dump, and Staal took a 2nd, Ladd will cost much more than that, not less. If you do not compensate us accordingly you can have fun in cap hell.
