Leafs pass. A generational scorer and our top D prospect for what? An underperforming sophomore and the chance that maybe one day Laf will be almost as good as Matthews? No thanks

I think the Rangers say no. Not because it isnt a fair deal, they get the best player in the trade and Sandin might be really good too, but I dont think that NYR is a matthews away from contending. And with his cap hit vs ELC and RFA years from Kaapo and Laf, its just a tough way to find compatability.

Matthews is great but the Rangers aren't close to being able to afford this. Idk about the value... all I can say is that I'd much rather keep the 2nd overall pick and 1st overall pick who are cost controlled for another 2/3 years

NYR is approaching cap hell as it is so that’s an easy no

Both teams immediately say no. Leafs because Matthews is a proven asset and sandin has shown really well so far. Rangers say no due to the cap implications and the cost control of a number 1 and 2 pick

Lol, Kaako+Lafreniere is going to cost more than Matthews in 3 years. But I see what you mean. If you force Henrik to retire, I think it works.
