The career of Rick DiPietro

Description
The guy was drafted 1st overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the same one that say Dany Heathley (who I actually plan to cover for the post about the Sens), Marian Gaborik, Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Lundqvist (who actually was a 7th rounder lol).

What was unbelievable with him, it was that me made his NHL debut in the 00-01 season, at only 18, which is ludacris for a goalie.

After having back to back 30 wins seasons in 05-06 and 06-07 seasons, the Isles thought they had their elite goalie to build their franchise around. But after those two very good seasons, he began to have major injury issues.

After having only played 5 games in 08-09, 8 in 09-10, 26 games in 10-11 and 8 games in 11-12, it was clear that DiPietro was as washed up as it could get. So he didn't become the goalie the NYI drafted him to become and it's pretty sad, because I think he could've been a very solid starter if it wasn't for such injury issues.

His pro career ended in 13-14, with the Charlotte Checkers, the Canes' AHL affiliate.

Such a sad career IMO.

The 1.5 million he still is collecting means he is making more money than most career back goalies. Jim Carey or Andrew Raycoft is more sad, they had amazing starts to their career but not the bank money Dipietro got when all crash and burned.

ELC=2 million.
bridge=2.5 million
7 out of 15 years completed of the stupid contract=7 years x 4.5 million.
buyout of 8 remaining seasons=16 years x 1.5 million
1 season of AHL=50K

Total 60 million earnings, for 318 regular and 10 playoff games, that equals 183K per game.

He beat out Hasek and Roy for a Veizna award, while the HOF'er were still in their prime.
