Sabres 2020-2021 w Internal Budget

Created by: IonSabres
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2020
Published: Jun. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Given the rcent bloodletting by "Kerry and Tim", I decided to create a roster with placeholders at certain positions as a way to allocate Cap to meet an internal Budget of $75,000,000 that includes:
a) Buyout of Cody Hodgson continuing as required ($0.8M)
b) Bonus Rollover (estimated at $1.0M)
c) Rookie Bonuses (estimated at of $1.5M)
thereby leaving about $71, 700,000....I'm close at $72M

In addition to Mojo and Risto traded, so are RFA's Montour and Reinhart. Possibly could add Mitts and Tage to create trade packages to fill the open spots with suitable players.

If this doesn't catch those sadistic **** Pegula's teh I don't know what will!! I can dump employees as well!!!

So you sign Demelo and just don't qualify Montour?

I think Eichel asks not to be protected for the expansion draft after this.

Him and Reinhart are being traded (desc.). Not the best move imo especially Reinhart, but I could see them looking to sell high on him if they get the right pieces back. Montour just doesn't seem to fit in Buffalo and Sabres ACGMs on here trade him often.

You really don't want to be trusting the opinions of online Sabres fans... That is just a bad place to be.

Idk, the numbers back it up. Given, I haven't gotten to see him play very often but it seems like his development has totally stalled. Defensive numbers aren't great and the offense is okay at best. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt - perhaps the Sabres system just doesn't fit his play style, but I wouldn't say his tenure in Buffalo has been much of a success.

I'll defer to you, if you're a Sabres fan though

This is an extremely interesting framework with which to work. Here's an alternative: take the $3 million for the #3C and give it to Reinhart at #1 RW ($7.25 million). Now split the $6.25 million between the two middle center spots: #2C gets $3.75-$4.25 million and #3C gets $2-$2.5 million. You don't get the impact player (free agent you would be paying $6.25 million to) you're hoping for but when Cozens, Mittelstadt or whoever is drafted at #7 overall this summer matures, he can fill that spot. Ristolainen and Montour can be used to acquire the #2 RW and #3C. I think that this is an entirely reasonable and attainable plan.

Your defense needs a little work, though.

Never defer to a Sabres fan. Me included. You're right that he hasn't been great but no one really has. Playing with Ristolainen hurt him as it does everyone. And up until this year the system was a confused and structure-less mess. Best argument for moving on from him is that you don't want to commit the $ he's going to ask for since he's still an unknown quantity under Krueger. I've never been sold on Montour but better to go the arbitration route if that's the case than to trade low. It's not a Risto scenario from 3 years ago where his value will never be higher.
