Next Year w Palmieri

Created by: ON3M4N
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 15, 2020
Published: Jun. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Boston will have just over $3 million in space to make moves during the season.

NJD gets two young wingers with team control. Both have top 6 upside w/ Bjork being able to play either wing position. Could be some nice pieces to go along with their young C's they have in New Jersey.

On the middle six of the line-up you could flip flop DeBrusk/Frederic if you wanted to that way you don't have two rookies on the line together. Could swap Frederic w/ Ritchie if you wanted as well, although I think Frederic has more upside than Ritchie.

I think ur right, if he even considered that it'd be over 8 years with most of it being in signing bonuses.

Krug and his agent already know that he'd be the most sought out UFA LD. Noway Krug would sign for 4 x 6.5m. The very least i see Krug taking from Boston is 6 x 6.75m and i'm not sure that gets it done.

I'm not convinced that Don Sweeney would offer him that much, But if Krug wants his money and term he might not have a choice.

Do you re-sign him after that one year and if so, what's the contract

And Krug and his agent both know he wants to stay in Boston and compete for Cups. In order to do that he's going to have to take a discount. Over the last 3 years offensive production wise, Krug and Yandle are close (he's also close with Morgan Reilly and Tyson Barrie). Now Yandle is slightly less dependent on the PP for production and is a better shot blocker, but Krug has delivered more hits (neither guy is great defensively). Yandle is currently signed at 8.7% of the cap hit. With the current cap, that comes out to just shy of $7.1 million a year for 7 years.

We've seen how Sweeney works when it comes to deals. For Krug it'll come down to either going for a cup or cashing in, but he's not going to get both in Boston. Could it maybe go to $7 million a season? sure, but I see Krug taking a shorter deal and hitting the UFA marketing again around 32-33 when the cap is even higher and Boston is most likely out of their cup window.

Sure Sweeney has a choice, its spending that money to upgrade the Top 6 and letting McAvoy or Grz QB the PP. You'll still have Marchand, Bergeron & Pastrnak on PP1 and they are the heart of the PP offense.

Hard nosed Palmieri is great but I want a youth movement through drafted forwards.

Just think if Krug were going to take even the smallest discount he’d be signed.

Sweeney has been good at negotiating w/ his vets. Krug negotiations have dragged.

I like the Palmieri return but we're looking for picks and prospects mostly, if you threw in your 2020 3rd it's a done deal.

So you rather have picks that may not even crack and NHL roster for 3 years and if they do they may not be good? I'd rather have guys that are in the NHL now, can play in my top 9 and are only 23/24 respectively.

On Krug. I think a lot of people are thinking long-term team i.e. 7 or 8 years. If that we're the case, I'd agree a deal would have been done. With the stoppage in play and a flat cap for next season though, I think it threw a monkey wrench into talks.

Same point as I mentioned above, you rather have essentially scratch tickets vs known pieces?

If another team was offering a 1st and a B+ prospect? probably. Like I said I do like that return, young guys that can play in the top 9, some top 6 potential with Kase. Gives us some depth on the wing which we need... but this team also needs young star talent, easiest way to acquire that is through the draft. Again, if your 2020 3rd is included I like it a lot more

The 2020 3rd is most likely a late pick, the odds of getting even an everyday NHL player a low. The odds of getting a star talent in the back half of a draft (while possible) is also not great. The draft is just a giant crapshoot. If you rely on the draft to heavily you'll always be rebuilding. Look how long its taken EDM to even become a playoff team and that's because they landed a generational talent that doesn't come around often.

Should have been more clear. Give Studnicka, Kase, Senyshyn, Bjork and Frederic more time. Sweeney needs to find out now playing his young prospects. I like Palmieri a ton but i’d like to see what the Providence kids along with Kase/Bjork can do 1st. If Sweeney wants someone like Palmieri next winter then decide then to make that trade.

Yeah Krug isnt taking that deal unfortunately (believe me i have been arguing people to keep it around 6.9 vs 8+ lol, but 6.5 is low)

Frederick would likely stay at Center

Cant really argue the trade, looks good, im just thinking maybe would rather keep Bjork and just throw a 2nd in or something

Love it all. Krug situation obviously completely unknown with the whole flat cap situation. Also would like KP to come with some sort of extension in that deal. This is the type of all in move that Sweeney is going to have to decide on next season, especially if this summer run ends up with the bs falling short. Lastly I’d prefer Ritchie over Frederic on LW3+4. Just think frederics style would correlate better with Kuraly and Wags. Him and Ritchie are probably equal but just my feeling on Frederic at the moment. Give me this team next year and I’m throwing a fat bet on the bs to run the table next season.
