Kaut is our only high-end forward prospect and looked good in his 9 game stint this year. We also have plenty of young C's in Compher/Jost/Kamenev/Newhook/Bowers, so positionally Howden doesnt' fill a need.
I'm not at all impressed by Howden's stats either, including his low career high 23 points and his -27 over 2 seasons.
Avs are also a team that value underlying stats highly, and Howden's 40.3 CF% and 40.4 FF% are literally the worst in the entire league among forwards with over 60 games.
The most valuable asset from NYR here is the 2nd, but Avs have absolutely no reason to throw away Kaut (a recent 16th overall pick). Only way he gets moved is if it's in a package to get a legit top 6 forward, but really I don't see him getting traded because Sakic is high on him.
