Am I missing something with JVR? Has he fallen off hard or something?

He's pacing about 23 goals + 25 assists with under 15:00 ice time. He's a positive possession player this year (51.1 CF%) and also has a balanced 51.2 oZS%. That's not bad for $5.5m for 3 years.

The term of his contract is also good given that it expires in 2023 when Mackinnon's deal is up.

He's still good, just overpaid I think. Not even that bad of a contract imo, as far as bad contracts go

Hawks fan opinion: I’d say the Avs shouldn’t do that trade simply because this Avs team so wicked fast. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think JVR fits their style. Am I off base on that?

hes also not a great skater, dont think hes a fit for an uptempo Avs team..and at 31, its not going to get any better, if anything going to get much worse

Good points. Speed is definitely a crucial element, and he might be too slow to fit this team. Would be nice to have a power forward type on the 2nd line though. Maybe Nichuskin can be that guy for us though.

With retention his cap hit would only be $5.5m x 3 years. Seems like a good contract for a 45-50 point power forward, no?

Avs are gonna have to sign Landeskog after 2020-21, JVR certainly doesn’t help them do that

With a flat cap, avs will have the space to keep landy, sign Makar, and re up all their RFAs this year and have about 4.5m in cap to play around with....which is why moving Zadorov type frees up 7m in 1 more guy. Most Long term avs roster being conversitave with the cap, they can add around a 6.5m-7m guy and be fine.

But Really need to be cautious with who that is, dont want dead cap space in an older guy who is aging curve will get him in a year or 2.

For sure. Can still bulldoze to the front of the net, play physical in all three zones. Unless he totally falls off a cliff in year 1, I don't think its a terrible move

Does Philadelphia do this trade? Maybe to open up capspace and a roster spot in their top 6 for Farabee? I figure that they'd be somewhat interested in Zadorov due to the fact that they can replace Braun at roughly the same cap hit.

No issue moving JVR for me but I’d rather a defender who could play the right side. Is Zadorov able?

LD: Provorov,Sanheim, Ghost (plays better on right), Hagg, Morin and our top 2 d prospects play the left side

RD: Niskanen (yr left) Braun UFA), Myers, Friedman

Zadorov can play on the right, yes.

What's the max that Philly would be willing to retain to move JVR?

Coga16 beat me to it, JVR just doesn’t fit with his lack of skating and contract.
