Leafs can't trade all their forwards that are cost effective. Johnsson and Rosen into Montour is fine. Toronto doesn't want to lose Kerfoot for a bunch of stuff. Buffalo and Tor agree to this deal without Mtl.

As a leafs fan I think they would have to move some middle-6 guys in order to sign a top-pairing RHD like Montour. They have enough depth to replace them with Barabanov, Mikheyev, Engvall, Spezza, Korshkov etc., and Ennis or Galchenyuk could always be brought in.

Johnsson and Kerfoot are both middle six guys ... and Montour isn't a top pairing RD.

This is a hard no from the habs, No way they help the leafs cap situation unless a huge prospect comes back. Habs also not in the need for kerfoot. Especially with the amount of 3rd line center talent in free agency this season.

Ah yes... free agency! An aging wildcard Tyler Ennis or Galchenyuk, who only plays well on the wing. Perfect!

Not that I disagree with that trade, but what need does this meet for Montreal? We don't need another 3rd line center.
