Johnathon Wills wrote an article on The Athletic in November on why teams should look at Puljujarvi and he included video showing how in leagues below the NHL he has success and he just needs to translate that to the NHL level but it's not that simple. In lower leagues he has time to recognize what is happening, make adjustments and make the right play. Now you can do drills and go to speciality coaches to improve skating, stick handling, shooting and a number of other things. When it comes to speeding up how fast your brain processes the information there is nothing but theory so far. There are coaches and academics that are starting to focus on hockey IQ and are trying to prove it can be taught, which a lot of people in hockey still don't think hockey IQ can be taught. There are also a lot of studies that are trying prove certain video games can increase reaction time. I do think there is merit in both fields but making someone think faster is just not possible at this point. Physically he has the tools but he is a bottom 6 player at best. If you don't have a subscription to the Athletic I know it was posted a couple of months ago under by an Edmonton fan. But I know there is a discount now I paid $20 for a year and it is definitely worth the money!
