Laine takes an offersheet from Montreal for 8.4 mill instead of accepting this and I think Montreal would even do 10.4

Or Montreal could OS Connor for 7.5 million, wait for the Jets to Match and then offer 9.5 to Laine and the Jets won't have a chance to match since they'd be way over.

I feel like Patrick Laine and Kevin Lablanc should sit down for a drink and discuss the importance of being a team player :P

Yeah they still wont be over. They would be one Kulikov cap dump/buyout away from being under the cap

The Jets have 22 million in cap space left and still need to sign 4 forwards and 2-3 extras. If Laine gets 10 and Connor 7.5, you have 4.5 million roughly to sign 4-5 more players, even at league minimums you are very close to over the cap. What if Laine wants more than 10?

Laine wants over 10 mil.
Even if they sign everyone at a league min, their D needs to be improved

Laine wont get more than 10. he is not worth it and gms know that. He should really be bridged. However 4.5 to sign copp, pionk, bring up Appleton, vesalainen, and 3 depth pieces. hmm. Copp gets 3M, pionk at 2m. Total 8.775M. Take out 4.5 space and we have 4.275. Dump Kulikov or trade perreault and we are done

I honestly want Winnipeg to be the best team in the west but I think they have to take a hard look at themselves and do a readjust this season. They have some contracts they should get rid of at all costs and perhaps take a step back for a couple seasons. Too many high priced old guys that will soon be declining.

Trade Wheeler, Little and Buf and get some futures from those moves. Maybe struggle a bit this season but bounce back with some younger faster assets in a year or two all still within the prime of Schiefele et al.

I'd give Laine over 10 before I'd give Marner. Its not that I like Laine more, I think he's one dimensional and possibly a bit difficult to coach (Maurice isn't exactly a players coach) that being said, he is definitely a top 3 goal scorer in the NHL today and goals are the hardest thing to come by. He'll be a perennial 40+ goal man if given the right linemates and opportunities. Skinner just got 9 million and has a career high of 63 points. Why wouldn't a GM spend 10 on Laine if that's the market for goal scoring?

I think we should see what we have first. if an offer for a shutdown guy like harmonic comes around sure. But otherwise, lets see what we have. I see the d-pairing starting like:
Jomo-Pionk
Beaulieu-Buff
Niku-Poolman
Kulikov
I truly believe poolman has what it takes to be an impact shutdown rd and wouldn't look out of place with Jomo shutting down top lines. I could see him stealing pionk's job. In that case I wouldn't change much. Maybe a LD rental. however, if poolman doesn't pan out, trade for a shutdown rd

As I said earlier if hamonic comes in:
Jomo-Hamonic
Pionk-Buff
Niku-Poolman
Kulikov

I believe that if laine has a strong showing in the first half (not production I mean overall game) he could bump wheeler off the top line. This would allow Perreault-Little-Wheeler to be put back together and roslovic can center copp and ehlers on the 3rd line. Vesalainen and Appleton are big bodies that should play well with lowry

I get what you are saying but I stand by my statement because that means you are saying there is another offer sheet. didn't we learn the first time that gms do not want to overpay AND give up first rounders for players

More likely, the jets bridge laine (unless he holds out for 5) and he gets almost all the money coming off the buff contract when it is over

Don't do anything I say. Just wait it out. the jets have one of, if not the deepest d prospect pools in the league

Buff only has 2 years left and is worth the money IMO. he is still a premier offensive defencemen when healthy
Wheeler had 90 pts, is captain, and just signed that deal, nuff said
Little will stay because of his NMC. Probably afterwards too because the jets are too loyal to him and will never move him

I can't see anyone doing a max OS that costs 4 1st rounders, but Laine is a generational goal scorer and despite his flaws he's worth 2 1sts easily. So why not send an OS that costs 2 1sts and change?

Teams don’t want to give up much in offersheets clearly cause MTL would have raised it up a tier. I truly believe that a successful offersheet on a star will never happen

Oh I bet another million per year would have finished Carolina.
