What is that Arizona trade? Also what happens when Hyman comes off of LTIR? (Shore is not a 2nd liner)

I think the contracts are close, but I don't see how the trades help the leafs at all.
The leafs have tons of guys who can slot into the bottom pair like Benning, they might as well utilize that position with a 2 way contract instead of a $2million player. is Kuemper that big of an upgrade on Hutchinson that the leafs would give up a solid Bottom 6 versatile guy like Petan on a league min contract and Ian Scott, who just had an unbelievable year in the WHL, and looks like he very well can be better than Kuemper in 3-4 years?

@shmoeman Leafs backups are ass Kuemper fits the job almost perfectly. Hyman jumps on to Tavares's line bumbing everyone on the left side down

@CameronLeafs Benning provides that NHL experience to Harpur and when Dermott comes back Kuemper is way better than Hutchinson who barely managed to edge out a win in the AHL. Also, Petan is too small. Joseph Woll is debatably better than Scott

I think he was referring to the cap space. Having Hyman back would put the team over the cap.

As a cap strapped team and someone getting around 14 minutes a night, will the difference of Bennings 200 games to Harpurs 100 really be worth $1.2million in cap space + depth? I don't think so.
again, with all of the backups available at league min, I don't think the leafs would want to spend an extra million on Kuemper when they have sparks and Hutchinson under contract. Petan is the same height as Kerfoot and 5 pounds heavier, I don't think he's too small. Woll is debatably better than Scott yes, but goalies take time to develop and surely one will be better than Kuemper in a few years. The last time the leafs had a goalie prospect this promising was Tuukka Rask. Im not saying either of them will be anywhere close to rask, but you don't often see goalies get traded until they hit 22-23 because teams want to see what their true potential is. I just think its a lateral move that makes it more difficult to sign players or to make deadline moves.

I would hope the Leafs are taking a look at Domingue. He just got pushed out of the backup role by McElhinney and he has a cheaper cap hit.

Arizona doesnt take that trade, whole lot of nothing for a really underrated goalie. Also Leafs are out of cap space when Hyman is back

good call. If experience is a necessity, there are tons of FA with more games played than Benning. Go sign Girardi for 1m or something.

I agree with this. I don't think either team takes the trade. Kuemper is good, and would be a solid back up on any team. but the leafs cannot afford to pay a guy who is just going to play the second night of back to backs $2m
