I will give you this, pick number 6 is a hefty price.
But think about it.
What Toronto just gave up for Andersen, a much less experience and succesful goalie that is without a contract (RFA).
Fleury is just 30 years old,
Since 2012, he ranks 2nd goalie with the most wins.
Since 2012, he ranks 1st for shutoots.
SInce 2012, he ranks 12th in GAA with guys who played more then 100 games.
Did I mention he want to two Stanley cup finals and won a cup?
He plays for a good team, ok, but he has a little contract and nobody has a pedigree remotely close to him and his available right now...
So, tell me now, how crazy is Rutherford?

Doesn't really matter what JR wants, it's what someone will offer. And they're aren't many teams with a 5.7m cap space available and who would want to protect Fleury in the expansion draft because they don't have another goalie....maybe younger and cheaper.
It's not the Pens will lose Fleury in the draft, it's they will have to protect him (NMC) and lose Murray via trade or draft. Plus Pens would really want some cap space this year. So the Pens aren't exactly negotiating in a position of strength.
Fleury for Dallas's Niemi and a young Dman might be the best type of offer JR gets.

Well Schneider fetched the #9 overall pick from the Devils so it's really not all that far off. Flames would be getting a franchise goaltender, not some unknown. But obviously #6 overall is a hefty price. And it's Treviling so who knows

Perception is why. The problem with Fleury is that he has been dethroned by a rookie and hasn't sniffed the net since. Fleury is still a good goalie but he's being sold at a loss right now. There's also the expansion draft which means Pittsburgh will have to get rid of one goalie if they don't want to lose one for nothing. The goalie market isn't that hot right now either. Not too mention that GM's are starting to get wiser to the notion that you don't need a big name goalie to win the cup. If Fleury was being shopped last summer, he'd of been picked up no sweat. This summer if the price for him is a potential star player like a Dubois/Nylander/Brown/Juolevi etc, most GMs' will take 6th over Fleury any day of the week. I would. Young high draft pick players on cheap ELC contracts are the most valuable thing in the NHL right now. most times even more then good established players.

No chance MAF is getting you the 6th overall pick.
Think more closer to the Van-NJ trade (Schneider for the 10th overall). Except Schneiders trade value was higher (good season, younger) and MAF is older and had concussion issues (not good, especially for a goalie).

I wouldn't hate that either, Kylington and Poirier are good prospects.
My jaw just drops when I ear stuff like MAF will not get anything better then a second round pick.

My biggest problem with Fluery is that he's a good or sometimes great regular season goalie, but when the playoffs happen he's average or terrible. I guess what I'm trying to say is; When the lights get the brightest "The Flower" starts to wilt.

Can't disagree with you there but if Calgary wants a goalie that can get them to the playoffs Fleury is their best option. And the Pens haven't always been the best defensive teams in the playoffs until this season. Calgary has a better blueline or should with the talent they have there. Fleury also wasn't bad in the playoffs the 2 previous seasons and it was injury that saw him on the bench not Murray out dueling him.

I think most leaf fans would be upset if we gave up the same package to land Fleury. With guys like Andersen and Schneider when he was traded, they were seen as very good goalies who could still potentially get better. Part of the attraction team's would have with MAF is the potential to get him without giving up and high value assets. His age, durability, inconsistency and contract are all red flags that you might be willing to look past only if the price is right.
