I just want him gone. I would buy him out or try to trade him.

Tampa likes defenceman who are offensive but can also play D. Risto was a -40 last year. I don't care what team you're on that's terrible! Even though they get a 2nd too and you take Callahan's contract on you're not getting one of their top young prospects, a good 2nd line player, and a 1st
    Risto + 2nd = Miller + Callahan + 1st
    Leave out Cirreli

    lemme fix that formula
    Risto +2nd= Cirelli + (Miller + Callahan)/Point +1st

sabers dont get point but tbl get to afford him

My point exactly. We are doing you a huge favor clearing enough space so you can sign point. It’s a big price to pay but we need to be compensated for that. Right d are extremely hard to come by and Ristolainen will be better with a better team around him and needs a change of seenery.

If Botterill could get that kind of return for Risto, that would be a huge win, but I doubt Tampa does it.

At the TDL there were similar trades and I immediately thought that there was now way BriseBois would give up that much for Ristolainen. Lately, I have seen several trade for Miller or Callahan. Miller (13 goals and a $5,250,000 cap is approaching cap dump status) is traded for a 2nd or 2nd and 3rd rarely for 2 2nds. Callahan has been moved by adding as much as a 1st but most observers settle on a 2nd and 3rd (because for a team as the Sabres that is only a few steps ahead of our 3rd and 4th). So if one adds up the value of Miller plus the cost to Callahan one gets Miller + Callahan = 2nd or 3rd or in the worse case future considerations, so breaking down this trade Miller + Callahan = STL 2020 2nd is about correct.
That leaves Cirelli, Anthony + 2019 1st round pick (TBL) for Ristolainen. That 2019 first is nearly a second (only nine rounds before Buffalo's 2nd). I will not discuss the value of Cirelli but IMO another piece needs to added to TBL 2019 1st. Maybe Cirelli is too much, maybe another roster player would be better, but other than Cirelli I do not see any player that Betterall would want (certainly not Palat).
    I would appreciate any feedback.

See above, not nearly enough for Ristolainen, leave out the STL 2nd then add something from TBL.

NP, but TBL needs to add a good piece going to Buffalo.

I once thought the same, but Betterall does not need to trade Ristolainen, especially with Bogosian recovering from Surgery.

I don't see any problem with that. Risto is not our #1 D, he is not even our best defender after Dahlin. If Botterill can sign or trade for another RHD, why don't we trade Risto?

I just reread my comment, it appears I was disagreeing with you, which I was not. I should have said, I would have thought the trade above was a gross over payment for Ristolainen, but now I do not.
Yes trade, but not give him away for Tampa's first as suggested by many. I would do the trade proposed, I think it is fair, actually not much more than Montour.
