They get players to hit the cap floor, and Zaitsev will be on the 2nd pair in Ottawa, so they would want him. They also don't have a backup, hence Sparks.

yeah they might use sparks and honestly I like Zaitsev more than most but its still not worth taking it for the middle picks, they can get more out of Toronto to take 10million off their cap

Mind you, they also don't have to pay Gaborik, so they essentially get 3 middle-late picks, a backup goalie and an RD that will play 17 minutes a night to not pay Gaborik and buy out Marleau.

Ya no. This isn't creative, it's ignoring facts. The senators aren't going to pay Marleau 3.833 million dollars when they can stick gaborik on LTIR and pay him next to nothing. I think it's an absolutely tiny portion, if any, of the contract that isn't paid by insurance. Marleau has to be paid real dollars.

so....Ottawa keeps gaborik, his cap hit, and doesn't pay him (awesome for Ottawa, and their notoriously cheap owner), orrrr get rid of Gaborik, and pay Marleau to not play (horrible for Ottawa, and their notoriously cheap owner).....wow, tough choice.

He's on LTIR. Insurance pays 80% of his contract. Ottawa will have to pay him 1.25 million total over the last two years of his career. They would have to pay Marleau 3.833 million. They would rather have Gaborik, and the reasons are obvious.

Consider that they would get 3 draft picks, and 2 players that they will use. they also get 6.25 million towards the cap, which they need in order to reach the cap floor.

Consider that they have to pay Marleau 3.833 million dollars. They just are not doing that for a pile of junk. Give them a first round pick and maybe they consider it.

You're stuck with Marleau, and posting impractical ACGMs three times a day isn't going to change that.

Ottawa would not want sparks at all. Anderson is still better than him Hogberg is NHL ready, could also resign Nilsson who is better than sparks
