At minimum, I gotta think Keefe is an assistant with the Leafs next year , unless he offered another NHL job.

Giving the choice though, I would prefer Babcock to leave. He gets badly out coached at game during the game. The players put forth all that effort all week, all summer just to have Babcock running the bench incompetently.

It's kinda of an illusion that the Leafs are going to have all this extra free money when Marleau departs. Then the money is going to have to spent retaining your own RFAs.

It certainly is an illusion. Many people on here are moving his 6m this season to spend to the cap and signing rfa’s like Johnsson and kap to 1 and 2 year deals. There will be no wiggle room.

Even in my agm here when marleau leaves we have about 16m to sign Bracco, Dermott, Andersson, Gauthier and replace or resign 4 ufa’s. Certainly not going to go big game hunting in ufa unless we have pieces to move.

I see your point but the kind of Dman that Toronto would get in ufa would not fit the budget. Marleau’s money will need to go to other RFA’s and would not leave us the 6-8m we would need as I pointed out in my other comment. It can be done but would involve us moving significant pieces. Possibly Dermott if Sandin pans out.
