Why do Leafs fans constantly think their players are going to take hometown discounts? What if Gardiner's knee explodes next season? That measly $3M is nothing compared to the $6x6 contract some other team will (over)pay him.

Fat chance that Jake Gardiner accepts a 1 x 3 deal, Some crazy GM will easily offer him at least 7 x 6.5 if not more.

in 2019-2020 LHD is rielly / muzzin / and a combonation of Rose/Borgman/Dermott as #3
2020-2021 LHD will consist of Rierlly / Sandin / Rosen/Borgman/Dermott
basically what i am saying is Gardiner will not be back with TML; and if they can get Ekholm (unlikely) ; they would never need him

In addition Zaitsev was better with Muzzin, and with the loss of Gardiner/Hainsey; you kinda need him.

someone like brouwer could be useful, but in house the likes of Engvall/Korshkov are more likely options

and not to nit pick, but with Hossa you are over the allowable 10% over the cap on LTIR
