Well, what we actually need is a superstar... Even if we are keeping all those picks/prospects, there will be simply not enough places for them in the line-up... Even next year, if no trades are done and that guys like Poehling, Suzuki, Brook or Evans starts the year in MTL + guys like Weal and other UFA/RFA, guys like Armia, Lehkonen or Byron might have to be out of the line-up (that's not a great thing even if it means we have depth). We need top end guy, Kakko fill the bill. Would you say these trades are fair at least (for the other teams)?

THE RANGERS ARE NOT TRADING THE SECOND OVERALL PICK

The reason why you want the second overall is the same reason that the rangers aren't trading it.

You need more depth then MTL need... Having a guy like Podkolzin whom potential is close to Kakko's + a guy like Broberg, Soderstrom or York to help your defense + Juulsen + another great pick would be more helpful for you...

Value is good on the Rangers deal, but after Hughes and Kakko, there are no franchise players in the draft. The Rangers haven’t had a franchise player in an unbelievably long time, and when they have an opportunity now to get one, it won’t be given up.

If the deal is such a steal for the rangers then why would Montreal pay that... the rangers are in way more of a need to add a franchise altering player like one they WILL get at 2 rather than 2 or 3 shots at descent players. They have already added several players to the prospect pool from the 3 1st rounders from last year and they will possibly have another 3 this year if Dallas makes it to the CF so this makes no sense from the rangers perspective...

I want to game this out in the order you've got them:

Trade #1) Florida, is Petry worth a 1st, a 2nd and an overpriced backup (good goalie, but more than the Habs need)? If yes, let's assume the deal happens... (if not, the exercise is kind of moot)

Trade #2) Edmonton, is Lehkonen (a good, middle-line winger) and $10M in cap relief worth your 8th overall pick? I'd say so, but that's not my call. The Oilers would either need to have someone in mind to sign as a UFA or the ownership would just want to lower the payroll. The latter is certainly more likely than the former.
If Edmonton says no, Montreal has lost a top-4 D and picked up a goalie it doesn't need, a first and a second. This is a serious risk, and once Montreal as started down this path, Edmonton realizes it can probably jerk Montreal around a bit.

But, for argument's sake, let's say this transaction happens.

Trade #3) Kings, is trading down from #5 to #8 worth it for a second and a fourth? Almost surely, and it's not essential to make this move, but it helps a lot.

Trade #4) Rangers, is trading from #2 worth it for the #5 and #13, plus a solid RD prospect and a second pick? That's a coin toss for me.

It all comes down to whether FLA thinks that's a deal worth doing. From there, deals #2 and #3 would likely make sense. At that point, I'd not be heartbroken if that last deal doesn't happen. The Habs would have the #5, #13 and #15 and another second (giving them 3), a decent LD (Sekera) and Lucic to replace Lehkonen's spot or an opening for Poehling/Suzuki. They'd still have Juulsen, who would have to step up into Petry's hole, but that's not a crazy expectation.

Because Kakko would be an amazing fit for MTL and Podkolzin an amazing one for NY... I mean, the difference between those 2 is there, but we're talking about a 80-90pts winger in Kakko (and NHL ready) and a 70pts two-way winger in Podkolzin (who might play in 1 or 2 years, which will give you the time to add even more prospects). PLus you get another really solid prospect with the 13th

I don't agree with your first statement. We do not need a superstar (Not to mention Carey Price is already a superstar). The ability to have quality depth and team chemistry is what makes the team win.
I would say all of the trades are fair, but none of them make sense for Montreal. Don't trade the players until training camp where we are known how good those players are. Don't forget, we need Laval to be good as well.
