You are Winnipeg's new best friend for getting him to agree to that darling of a deal which they happily match

But if he doesn’t sign it your back to square one. Nice call though using offer sheet to button down player long term.

Nope, if he signs Detroits offer and Winnipeg matches. He's locked into Winnipeg with no rights.

Please Detroit, do this!

If he signs an offer-sheet with any team whatsoever, jets have the opportunity to match and Trouba has no say in the matter. If the jets match, he is stuck with the jets for the same cap hit and term he negotiated with the team that presented him with the offer sheet

I don't think Trouba will be back in Winnipeg, but if you want him, you'll have to deal for his rights in hopes Yzerman has the magic touch and can sign this guy long-term. I think Trouba on Detroit is a good fit, potentially, if he can buy into their plan for rebuilding, since it will probably be at least 3 years until they are back in the playoffs. What would Trouba cost? That's hard to say. Maybe Bertuzzi and their 2019 1st round draft pick.

Jets will never get "playing value" in a trade because he is trade value is a one year rental. And why should the two front runners for his services next in summer of 2020, two lottery teams (Wings, Panthers) give up much too get him now? Jets are still on a Cup run, shouldn't the Jets just keep him for one more year? There are 90 UFAs every year. Few get traded but it seems to be an obsession with many that Trouba has to be traded.

This is what I said: "But if he DOESN'T sign it your back to square one"

A team submits a offer sheet.
Then the player has the option to sign or decline the offer
If the player doesn't sign the offer sheet then it is done. The process ends.
If the player signs the offer sheet then it goes to his current team they have 7 days to match, accept the compensation or negotiate a different deal.

So yes Trouba has a say because if he doesn't sign the offer sheet the process is over!

but if he doesn't sign the offer sheet, there is no way that detroit gets him for next year (outside of a trade)

edit: and it's very easy to have 'cap space galore' when you sign people to impossible deals

I know that wasn't the point. I was responding to BCAPP when he said Detroit sending Trouba an offer sheet would lock to in to a deal with Winnipeg like or not. So I pointed out if Trouba doesn't sign it goes back to the way it is now. Then I gave him props for seeing that you could use a offer sheet a way to sign a player long term. Not once did I choose a side or comment on who is worth more. I simply pointed out another way it could play out.

This wasn't directed at me was it? This isn't my mock proposal and all I did was point out another way it could go down.

But none of this really matters because an offer sheet hasn't been signed since 2013 and 2007 was the last time an offer sheet wasn't matched.

laugh laugh Why? Would Trouba sign a $6 million OS from Detroit, Knowing full well that Winnipeg matches it and he's stuck there. The OS needs to be at least in the $9 million to $10 million per range for Chevy to take the picks.
