It'll always depend on who's available at 8, but the more you look at Lucic's deal, it truly is the worst contract in the league. Alzner at least you can bury him in the minors, Lucic you can't. Alzner you can still buy him out and still get decent cap relief, Lucic due to his signing bonuses you'd get very little cap relief.

As much as Habs have cap space now to take him on, when guys like Domi, KK and Gallagher have to get new deals in 2-3 years, still having Lucic's contract would put MTL in cap hell. No thanks

Lucic would have to agree to waive his NMC knowing that MTL would not reinstate it because we're not wasting a protection spot on him come expansion draft time, so right there I think Lucic would nix the deal. But let's say just for the sake of this conversation he does waive then if EDM is willing to add a little more to compensate let's say a mid round pick, as a Habs fan I'd take that trade.

I think Lucic sees the writing on the wall and wouldn't ask the Habs to reinstate his NMC, so he'd be exposed in the expansion draft. I expect EDM would be flexible and throw in a mid-round pick because it's addition by subtraction. If nothing else, I'm sure Habs fans would enjoy this deal just so they could watch Lucic beat up on the Bruins for a couple of years!

I don't see Lucic fully waiving simply to prevent ever being sent to the minors. At most he'll agree to waive for expansion purposes because he wants to go to Seattle.
If he doesn't want to go to Seattle, he won't even do that much. If he waives then his team can "convince" Seattle to take him regardless of what he wants.
