I don’t know if you should pay Binnington 5.2 mill.

After the season Binnington had, I dont think STL lets him go.
Maybe sign Varlamov? He usually puts up similar numbers to Bob and would accept 3yr @ 6 mil i think

Why would Blues trade Binnington?

Yeah Let St. Louis pay him that. Some goalies just play well in St. Louis for some reason (Elliott). Bennington has only done this for half a season. I'm sure St. Louis wants to see what he can do with a whole season as #1.

On the other hand, STL could capitalize on his value right now and trade him to a goalie desperate team.

But then you just have Allen, who shouldn't be a #1 imo. He's better suited as a 1B type goalie. Slightly above average.

Blues aren't going to pay him that kind of money either. Think Matt Murray type money (3.5 mil area). Besides, Blues don't make this trade even if Binnington wasnt involved.

problem is that Murray ontract was signed 3 years ago and the market has changed for RFA. You can look at toronto and see that where good young players are pressing for more money regardless of t heir RFA status.

Problem with this scenario is the fact Binnington has no track record outside of this run. So no, Blues won't give him that money. It's part of the reason why William Karlson went to arbitration. Vegas wasn't going to give him 7+ million for one good season.

that really is his issue. Murray won back to back cups. But my thing is, if Murray signed that contract today in this environment he probably would have got way more. So I think he's a bad comparable.
My honest guess is he makes somewhere between 1-2 million a season on a short 1 year deal.

Murray only won the first cup at the time of signing his deal. If the Blues win the cup with Binnington as starter, then I can see his pay being bumped up in the 4 mil range. Playoff performance will end up determining his pay this year.

I can't imagine a realistic scenario where the Blues trade Binnington. They had a very good team that was being sunk by poor goaltending until he showed up out of nowhere and will likely get a fair share of vezina votes.

I'd think a 2-3 year deal in and around $4m is the safe approach so see if he can maintain this level into next year....but they might get him around $5.5-$6m on a 7-8 year deal. If he sucks it's an anchor but if he's anything close to what we're seeing now, it'll be one of the best contracts in the league
