Please no Sam Gagner on the Leafs. If Corrado is worth a second rounder, I would rather just have him on the Leafs instead of giving up assets for Dumba. The Leafs potential RWers, Hyman, Leivo, Johnson without giving up Nylander (a centre) to get a RWer in Niederreiter.

Very odd. You don't want Dumba? The same Dumba that looked pretty good at the world championships? I don't get it. RH shot D man with a high ceiling while also getting a scoring young RWer. Having Hyman, Leivo, Johnson is not ideal. There is a very good chance none of them become NHL regulars....I'd rather not rely on them.

Corrado struggled to get minutes for a very weak TML team last year. He is very likely to not be back unless they move Hunwick or stand pat.

As for gagner, why not add a depth C who will have some sort of TDL value? You can pick a similar player if you want to replace him but the concept is most definitely a good one.

No thanks to Gagne for me. I wondered if he'd be a candidate to sign for ultra cheap but I think he's had enough chances and never made anything of them. I have nothing to base this on but I question his "locker room" qualities. Most execs seem to think he can't hack it as a centre. Of course I get the concept of bringing in a 'reclamation' project of some sort. I like the idea of Lou reuniting with Elias on a short term deal for some vet leadership.

As for the Dumba trade, it's a steep, steep price but probably accurate and I don't mind it. We have a bit of depth building up for high skill forward prospects (taking the upcoming draft into consideration) but D is lacking and Dumba would be a terrific addition. I could see them making Nylander expendable if they can bring one or both of Vesey or Stamkos in.

As for Corrado, if someone wants to give us a 2nd rounder for him I'll personally escort him to the airport. I agree with you that when it comes to our current prospects like hyman, leivo, johnson, etc...these guys need to force their way onto the team and not just handed spots. Can't expect any one them to be part of the current or long term outlook but obviously hopeful one of them earns his way up.

      Thanks.

The thing with Gagner is he hasn't reached his potential but he still has 353 pts in 615 games. It's not like he has totally flopped.

Hasn't been a total flop but I think it's time to write of his potential as never-to-be realized. I'd take him on with a $1m-$2m deal assuming he adds decent leadership qualities to the team.

What I meant by the Corrado, if you think someone is going to give the Leafs a second rounder for him, then he must be pretty good, (which he hasn't shown).

People seem to really get caught up in RHD. There are just fewer players that shoot right than left, so if you have two on your defence that would be about the average amount.
This season the Leafs likely are going to have Zaitsev and Carrick on the right side. Both look like they can be competent NHLers.
Hyman certainly looks like he can be an NHL regular to me. And Johnson at age 21 was among the goal scorers in the Swedish League. He has a definite NHL potential. The Leafs worked so hard to get a #1 centre (Matthews) and sure would be nice to have another in Nylander.

There's no way the Leafs would ever make that trade with Minny for Nylander.

He's their future #2 centre for the next 10-15 years (hopefully) behind Matthews. The last 20 game stretch of this past season proved that Willie is capable of playing that role in the future. If you were to re-do the 2014 draft again most scouts I've read have mentioned that Willie would absolutely go in the top 5.

For as many bad decisions EDM has made, I have to think that they probably don't give up a 2nd rounder for Corrado. He's still too unproven, whereas the Oilers are probably looking for a RHD with a little more experience.

The Gagner deal is baffling since we already have a stop-gap 4th line centre for the next year in Laich, so it doesn't many sense at all to do that. And we'll most likely see Byron Froese as the Leaf's extra skater where you currently have slotted Laich.

I like that you've at least put Hunwick in as the 7th D. Heh. I'm fine with him in that role as long as he doesn't sniff top four anything. He's a decent bottom pairing guy and that's it.

I've mentioned this in a few other posts, but yeah, Sparks isn't ready to be an NHL back-up. Either trade for a young goalie with promise or sign a veteran for 1-2 years.

Matt Dumba is a decent defenseman, and being a RHD is great, but he and Nino aren't worth what Nylander potentially brings to the team.

His SHL playoff performance was very bad. Scares me.

You expect Willy to be here fore 15 years? Wow. I can't think of many players beyond McDavid that I would say that about.

Dumba is more than a "decent dman" he is right up there with morgan for potential. He has been coming on the last year and a half and MN may not be able to afford him long-term. For a fanbase that loves JVR we sure seem to ignore other potential 25-25 guys. Nino is very young and is a great piece to have.

Agree on Sparks but what do you do? Send him down and split with Bibeau? Terrible for 2 goalies. At least this way Bibeau gets to develop.

No to Gagner. You already have a 4.5mil fourth line C in Laich this season.

This is the problem with previous Leafs Management I don't think this era will make the same mistake, why would you trade young promising prospect. This makes no sense
