Lucic for Perry - Thoughts

Created by: sampollock
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 26, 2019
Published: Mar. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My thinking is that Anaheim might be interested in trading a high cap hit (Perry - 2 years left at $8.6M) for a lower cap hit at longer term (Lucic - 4 years left at $6M). Both players have no movement clauses, but I think Lucic would waive it to return to California and Perry might be tempted to play with McDavid. I hate to add JJ Khaira to this trade but I think the Ducks want to get younger, and he's a solid young player on a cheap contract that might entice them. If you make the trade after Lucic gets his $3M bonus on July 1st it makes this deal financially appealing to the Ducks cause they only pay $3M in base salary in 2019-20 as opposed to Perry's $8M. Lucic might rediscover himself in Anaheim, while Perry is still a better option for the top 6F in Edmonton (at worst, he can play on PP). Even if Perry is a bust after one year, it's better to buy-out the last year of his contract than 4 years for Lucic. If Perry continues with injury problems, we'd get LTIR. No salary is retained by either team. Thoughts?

Both players are bad and wickedly overpaid. But lucic is way worse. He's hardly a fourth line NHL'er at this point. There's atleast 10 teams in the league where he wouldn't even crack their roster. At least Perry can still score 15-20 a season and play some PP if he can stay healthy. Can't see how this makes sense for ANA

It doesn’t make sense for either team. No way the oilers can afford Perry’s 8.65M

Anaheim is going to be bad next year then their is the expansion draft. Eat Lucic for a year for a price then pass him off on Seattle. Add a decent prospect or pick instead of Khaira and its a logical trade
