1. Not sure which entry-level deal above 1 million you're referring to. If it's McDavid, the 3.775 M reflects the maximum rookie salary and bonuses under the CBA (which he's almost certain to hit, barring injury).
2. St. Louis has only one pick (57 OV) in the first 3 rounds in what is considered the best/deepest draft in over a decade. Blues get a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick (Oilers could sweeten by making the 2nd their own pick at 33 rather than Montreal's at 57). They also get Andrew Ference (who would need to waive his NMC) for 2 years at 3.25. Not a good contract, but a net savings of $1 M in cap space and at least a serviceable 3rd pair D in the right environment like St. Louis. The Blues have no need to trade Shattenkirk, but at some point the deal becomes hard to refuse. Blues would take, for example, Oiler's 2015 picks at 16, 33, 57, 79, 86, and their 1st round pick in 2016, but that would be a ridiculous overpay on the Oiler's part. So where's the sweet spot? How much would be reasonable both ways?
