CONTRACT NOTE: The AAV of this contract was increased in 2020-21 due to the raised league minimum salaries set by the 2020 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
Matthews gets paid the 2nd highest AAV in the NHL and Toronto doesn't buy a single year of UFA. Good Job Dubas.
I realize the term isnt ideal as he will be a UFA so not a great contract but I think Dubas worked with what he was given and if im a leafs fan im content with this contract, not happy but not upset. This makes the trade deadline and outlook on the offseason alot easier (Leafs will have 7 mil in cap space according to capfriendly). Interested to see how he does.
This is a great contract, Dubas so far has been good and this makes his trade deadline and outlook on the offseason alot easier. Interested to see how he does. Anyways this contract benefits each side.
This is not a great contract. They bought ZERO years of FA. The AAV is fine, but the term ruins it.
A player becomes UFA at age 27 OR 7 years in NHL. Therefore when this contract expires, Matthews will be in the league for 8 years . So 1 UFA year will be burned.
