Hayes is a UFA at season's end and can walk. Jost is a cost controlled player for at least 4 mote years and pick could be in top 10. No way this trade is not in the Rangers favor and Avs say no.

So for arguments sake, let's pretend Buchnevich and Jost are a wash (even though this season Buch has the same amount of points in 11 less games and has 40 more career points in only 33 more games)

That would mean all the Rangers would be getting for a half retained, rental Kevin Hayes who is playing at .84 P/GP at the old age of 26 is a 1st round pick that at best is maybe top 20?

Jost has far more value than buchnevich...he has a higher ceiling. A first round pick is fair value for Hayes. Solid player, but a rental, and certainly not an elite player

Take Buch out and the deal is fair. Assuming Duchene stays in Ottawa, Hayes is the #1 rental center. A late 1st and an A-level prospect is less than the return for Rick Nash last year.
