Would Carolina accept for a second and a 3rd or do you think they aren't interested in picks? Also they have the space maybe they would be interested in Marleau, I would hate to see him leave but hes been struggling to score and he just isnt a 6.25 mill player.

Riiighhhtttt. Sign everyone for well below market value, and rob Carolina blind, because...why not.

As a bruins fan I would handle the third line center situation by trading a 6th round pick for Sidney Crosby, at half salary.

Can we just be a little bit realistic here?

Think Rosen is a lock for that bottom lhd, Carolina probably declines maybe kappy works better there. I also don’t think Toronto needs to pay to get rid of zaitsev and I’m really not in favour of getting rid of him anyway. Think he would be just fine in place of Myers. His defensive game is great and would match up well playing that style with Reilly.

Ummm. Try Nylander. The way he’s playing not even that would do it.

Well what I'm suggesting are skeletons of trades, I'm willing to negotiate, and yes I think Johnson and Kapanen would sign for around 2-3 mil, look at the Dumba contract with the wild a few years ago, sign a two year bride deal, then sign for the big boy money, bet on yourself and it payed of well for him. Also if Carolina wants Nylander for a defense men Dubas should hang up immediately, hes at career low value, no reason to sell now. I do believe that Nylander will be worth the contract once picks up his game again.

Then guess what? You're not getting one of their good d men. The player nylander was last year might have been worth pesce, but I don't think so.

As for the contracts, we'll see, but I think you're in for a rude awakening

I think for Kappy the Leafs should listen, maybe kappy and a second too, Also I think it would be smart to sign someone to compete for that spot, I really hate when a player who has never truly proven themselves at an nhl level is a "lock" for a spot, sign a guy for around 1 mil who is decent playing right or left side D, worst case scenario you trade him for a late pick or waive him.

Well I think the biggest issue with this is that the Leafs are at an advantage, they have to much young talent, how many teams can say that? people play it off like they are at a weakness but any team would be chomping at the bit to get one of their young forwards, and yes I think the Hurricanes who lack offensive firepower after their trades this summer, would be willing to trade one of their defensemen for one of these guys, I really think they would be dumb to not atleast give it a listen.

Funny you mention about signing a vet, I literally just finished typing the same thing in another thread about having Lilly and Rosen on bottom pair. Now pesce for kappanen either straight up or possibly packaged with brown to make up the money I am okay with.

I think, at $750k on a 1-way contract...Rosen will at least make the roster...whether he gets the starting gig is another question. Probably have him, Borgman and Sandin in camp to see who impresses the most. Maybe a vet d-man on a <$1m contract in there to compete too (on a professional try-out maybe).

I agree with @Jamiepo on the trades. No need to pay to give away Zaitsev. I understand the need to move him if you want to allocate cap dollars elsewhere, but he can be moved without sweeteners as long as the leafs don't expect much more than a late draft pick or a random c-prospect in return.

Pesce will cost more but Carolina is obviously a possible trade partner.

Your numbers on Marner/Matthews might be low but we'll all have to wait and see. Either way, they're not far off probably....you have another $1m to use as you used an $82m cap and signs are pointing to $83m for next year...but the roster needs 1-2 bench players so that covers that.

1. Champing at the bit. It’s a horse racing term.
2. Ya, they would be interested in one of the leafs forwards, his name is Nylander
