What A Murray Trade Would Look Like

Created by: TheExpert
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 11, 2018
Published: Dec. 11, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've seen a lot of Penguins "fans" demanding that the team trade Matt Murray this season. The truth is, his trade value is at an all time low right now. At this point in time their best option is to roll with DeSmith and let Murray get some low pressure opportunities to regain his mojo when he returns from his injury.

Those same fans were demanding that they needed to trade Fleury. Now those same fans want Fleury back and want to trade Murray. Those aren't fans, they are just bandwagon fans

Right now yeah but as we get closer to the trade deadline his value will go up. Several teams that will most likely make the playoffs need goaltending depth. Murry has not just playoff experience but finals experience as well. I'm surprised at his cap hit its really low.

I love how Murray gets credit for winning 2 cups like he was the savior of the team. They win the cups with fleury in net too. Murray isn’t elite either. They’d get a mid level prospect and a 2nd for an oft injured goalie who has played awful this season.

A less-than-mediocre goalie wouldn't be able to do what he did in his first two seasons. He also broke AHL records before coming to the NHL. I get that he has been poor even dating back to last season, but give the guy some sort of a break. He had two concussions, a nasty groin injury that is pretty substantial to being able to perform to the best of your ability, and the loss of his father all in <300 days.. He will be fine, he isn't going anywhere, at least not yet

Agreed he isnt elite by any standard. Used to be good starter goalie at best currently having and extremely rough period since last year his value would be a 2nd rounder with a decent prospect or a low top 9 forward. He is on the path of what happened to schnieder and he was elite for so many years and just fell out quickly.

You very clearly didn't want any of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in '16 & '17 if you don't think he was a factor. He was the sole reason we got past Washington & Tampa. He came in when the Penguins were down 2-1 in ECF in 2017 and was lights out and shut out Nashville back to back to win the cup. Have all the opinions you want, but don't try and discredit what the guy has already accomplished

You're logic behind all of that is so stupid lol yeah lets not give credit to a goalie who was 21 entering his first playoffs and posted .923 save % and 2.08 gaa in 21 games. Next year he followed it with a .937 save % and 1.70 gaa with 3 shutouts and 2 of those in game 6 and 7 of the cup finals. But ya lets not give him any credit

Agreed 100%. Pens won’t trade him anyways. People on this site are so short sited. Same losers who ripped fleury a couple years ago now rip Murray

And then the next year posted a .908 save %. Don’t leave that one out. Oh and he’s never been healthy.

i like murray, but not worth all of that. id say 2 of those 3. something like a Morgan Frost and a 1st from the Flyers. Murray hasnt looked good this season and the last, so right now his value isnt that high

And did you watch any of those playoff games the season he posted a .908 save %? Because Im going to say you didnt or else you'd realize he faced more breakaways and odd man rushes than he has is previous seasons, and still had a save % over .900. Once again you sound stupid. The only correct thing you said is he gets injured, and I'm willing to be you anything he isn't even injured now, he's just been using that as an excuse to get mentally back into the game

So he’s only elite when the team in front of him plays well? Also 3 concussions in 4 seasons is worrisome. If a guy can’t stay healthy then he isn’t elite. The greatest ability any athlete can have is availability.

Like I said, he does get injured a lot. But that doesn’t make someone not elite. Quick gets hurt every year, and he is elite. Crosby got hurt a lot during his career, and he is elite. Your basing his skill level off this year and injuries, which to me doesn’t make sense

Definitely not. Nobody is giving up premium assets until he starts to play better. Right now he has the worst stats in the NHL out of any goalie to play ten games, and last season was the same story. He isn't worth a first round pick, maybe a roster player but that's it.

If you bothered to read the description of this post, you'd see that I am giving him a break. It's in the teams best interest to ease him back into the lineup.

sorry not directed at you, moreso the people in the comments trashing him again! I agree with you about easing him in though, last thing we need is to throw him in a game on the road and get shelled and then we are right back where we startd

That makes a lot more sense. DeSmith has been playing like a #1 goalie as of late so they really don't need to rush Murray back. When Casey has a bad game Matt will have basically no pressure on him when he comes in. He really just needs to get his confidence back.
