Funny that I suggested Carlson, Smith-Pelly and Vanecek for Nylander and three top prospects and got shot down here yesterday, and now you're suggesting Nylander, Zaitsev, and a 1st for Doughty and people don't even know what to say. Is Zaitsev really worth less than the Marlies' top defensive prospect pair? I think he's a solid 2nd pair guy, offensively, with a supporting top pair guy's level of physicality. Contract looking iffy?
You've improved the above team on defense, but it could really use Nikita Zaitsev. And the Kings don't have cap space for him, either. They're at $14,000 projected cap space. Not fourteen million. Fourteen thousand. They trade Doughty and sign Nylander over 6M, and they have 1.5M cap space. You can dump Hainsey at 50%, but he doesn't add enough value to get Doughty for Nylander and a 1st.
Also, I know Doughty gets a lot of hype, and had a stronger start to his career, but Carlson had like a dozen more regular season points than him last year, has five more career playoff points, and had 20 points last year, while Doughty's legendary cup wins only got him 18 and 16 points. I think at this point their on-ice value is equal, but Doughty is more of a walking no trade clause, in terms of what he means to his city. Each peaks at +11 for a playoff. Can't go wrong with either, and neither is particularly available, but if your plan is to avoid giving prospects by throwing in a #2RHD making 5M a year, it's probably not happening anywhere, but definitely not to a team that then has to trade away a different player to make space.
