This will never happen. Ever. Zero chance.
A) Chara has a full NMC - He would not waive to go to Vancouver - He has a family and has lived here for over a decade. Not moving to maybe make the playoffs. He has a better chance of winning in Boston.
B) The Bruins would have to be out of it. As in - no chance of making playoffs, Vancouver is heading in the right direction, but nowhere close to a serious contender. I can't see a scenario where this would ever happen, but if the Bruins are out of it, the only team that would want Chara would be a Cup favorite, a team where Chara as their 3rd or 4th Dman would put them over the top then he would basically have to agree to go there.
C) The Rangers are not taking Backes' contract. Again, Backes could have some value to a playoff team that needs some veteran presence and leadership heading into the playoffs. IF a team were to bite on Backes, they would not eat the whole contract, or there would be a Boston Prospect heading the out the door too. Also - Backes has NTC - so he would have to approve. He would not agree to be traded to a team that has little to no chance of winning anytime soon.
Why - WHY? would either team do this deal (NYR or VAN)? Rangers lose cap space they will presumably need for Panarin. Vancouver is actually trending in the right direction, why would they deal a decent winger who seems like he may have figured it out, a very good defensive prospect and their best current dman (who I think is highly overrated - Tanev) for a rental of a 41 year old? They could move Tanev and Bartschi for picks or prospects who are younger and under control of the team.
