If Jones was available this deal maybe makes sense but I think it's clear he isn't.

To obtain Jones, TO would have to massively overpay. Making this trade very unlikely to happen and on top of that, it would do more harm than good for TO because of the amount it would cost.

Here is the thing about defenceman, they are expensive to obtain so you need to draft and develop your own. Otherwise you are paying way more than they are worth. The Leafs have some really good prospects coming up that lessen the need to overpay for defensive help. I don't think a big trade is the answer, going with a cheaper more prudent trade would allow the team to maintain their forward dominance and upgrade the 1 real weak spot on the backend, which is Hainsey playing top pair minutes.

Teams aren't giving up their top dman on their team for Nylander.. Or their 2nd best.
