This is a bad trade for the Leafs, 2 years of Saad wont help at all if we don’t upgrade our D

You can't afford Nylander and teams will not give up D man for a 60 point player unless you want the same situation with Faulk in 2 years so the best possible outcome. A 50 point player and a solid rental that can help a playoff run not mentioning a B level prospect possibility.

I think a deal will be made mid-October, and any dramatic moves will be post-poned until 2019.

What I would like to see is an upgrade for the Leafs mascot who has been coasting along for years. It's a new NHL with Gritty, and it's time the Leafs joined it with their own googly eyed wildman

he is asking for 8 mil but the leafs are looking at him around 6 mil. He won't budge down past 7. Plus the contract that I gave Matthews is him taking a "pay cut." Will be tough to make a competitive squad with a real weak d core. If I was the Leafs management I would look for a 2 year 5 million dollar contract. Marleau contract would be up, Horton would finally be gone, Matthews and Marner's contracts would be done. Than you can really evaluate a long-term deal. Which is a risk I would take. If he outperforms his contract I would trade him for a D man than if you cant pay him.

Nylander will come in at around 6.5m for 6yrs. Funny how everyone forgets every other Lewis gross negotiation and exactly how they go.
